Therapy
Sex therapy seeks to resolve sexual difficulties either in the individual or the couple. Although sex therapy is a talking treatment it may be necessary first of all to resolve any underlying medical problems and this can be achieved with the help of the patients general practitioner.
Sex therapy is broadly concerned with three main areas;
• Homework assignments based on Masters and Johnson’s sensate focus approach.
• Removing “blocks” to sexualness.
• Education, which means dealing myths, misunderstandings and new information about normal sexual functioning and what can be expected from our bodies. Sex therapy, in a nutshell, has the ability to powerfully enhance the understanding of our sexual self and our sexual relationships by working through sexual difficulties in a non-judgemental, supportive and structured way, guided by a trained and competent sex therapist.
Training
Sex Therapy North has a long established reputation for offering training to professional groups in the areas of sexual dysfunction, sex and relationship therapy. Training can be delivered in many formats ranging from formal lecture, workshops and round-table master classes. Sex Therapy North is pleased to award all participants with a certificate of attendance for continuous professional development (CPD).
Supervision
Andrew Yates is a College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy (COSRT) accredited supervisor and has supervised counselling and sex therapy practice for many years both in the public and private sector for individuals and groups. Sex Therapy North would be pleased to facilitate individual, peer and group supervision in the area of sexual and relationship therapy.
